Troubleshooting Guide
Why Does My Car Shake When I Brake?
Causes of Braking Vibration
- Warped brake rotors (lateral runout) from excessive heat.
- Debris or rust buildup on the hub face prevents the rotor from sitting flat.
- Worn front suspension bushings or loose wheel bearings.
- Uneven brake pad material deposit on the rotor surface.
Diagnostics Advice
If you only feel shaking when braking, it's almost certainly the rotors. If it shakes all the time at high speed, it's more likely a tire balance issue. Continuing to drive on warped rotors can place extra stress on your suspension and ABS system.
